How are you dealing with heart disease?

In our February story “Reversing Heart Disease,” we learned that diet and lifestyle changes can go a long way towards easing the symptoms and signs of coronary artery disease, the most common type of heart trouble.

Now it’s your turn. Do you or a loved one suffer from heart disease and, if so, what natural steps are you taking to improve your heart health? We want to know!

My wife has had very high cholesterol over the past years and with her family history of heart disease as age 65 was getting close,..we were getting concerned. She has tried w/o success,(severe muscle problems), all of the various px meds for controling cholesterol. Our guides have been Dr Dean Ornish's books on reversing heart disease and everyday cooking and Dr Esselstyn's book on preventing and reversing heart disease. The measures in these books are extreme and one would have to be very devoted. Dr Ornish's everday cooking book is her main guide permits some animal products such as egg whites, skim milk, nonfat this and that, etc. She has been on the diet four mos. Her lipids rose after the first 2 wks but have been falling ever since, and are currently lower than when she suffered through a px of lipitor. The diet is very tough and finding prepared food products with 0 added oils is difficult, but she is keeping on. I plan to her tested for clogged carotids and pad and any other test her doc may recommend.

  2. There is a history of heart disease in my relatives. I try to eat healthy and include lots of fruits and vegetable. I know I should exercise, but seldom excercise. I often plan to do better, but fail to carry through with an excercise plan.
